Stay in-network and save

Aetna has negotiated discounts with doctors, hospitals and other health care professionals in their network. That usually means lower out-of-pocket costs for you. Network providers will file your claims and cannot charge more than the allowable amounts for covered services. There is no coverage for out-of-network care under the TRS-ActiveCare Select/TRS-ActiveCare Select Whole Health plan. You can find network providers by using the DocFind online provider directory. You can also call TRS-ActiveCare Customer Service at 1-800-222-9205 for help finding a network provider.

Note: For TRS-ActiveCare 1-HD and TRS-ActiveCare 2, out-of-network providers may bill you for amounts exceeding the allowable amount. The out-of-network provider is not required to accept the allowable amount as payment in full and may balance bill you for the difference between the allowable amount and the out-of-network provider’s billed charge. You will be responsible for this balance bill amount, which may be considerable.

Remember, there is no coverage for out-of-network providers for the TRS-ActiveCare Select/TRS-ActiveCare Select Whole Health plan, except for true emergency care. Therefore, under the TRS-ActiveCare Select/TRS-ActiveCare Select Whole Health plan, you will be responsible for all billed charges from an out-of-network provider.

USIN is a new, advanced imaging benefit provider for TRS-ActiveCare participants. You can access this high-quality network offered by USIN for advanced imaging scans, including MRI, CT and PET scans, and save on out-of-pocket costs.

Six ways to save

Here are six tips to help you save time and money on your medications: 

1. Register at Caremark.com. To stay up to date on new and unique ways to save.

2. Be sure any retail pharmacy you use is in your network. Network pharmacies are included in your prescription plan to help keep costs low.  Find a network pharmacy before you fill your prescription. 

3. Know which medications are covered. Your plan’s list of covered medications can help you and your doctor find the most cost-effective drug option. Find your plan’s list of covered medications. 

4. Use the Check Drug Cost tool available at Caremark.com. You’ll be able to do a side-by-side comparison of your medications to see where you could be saving. 

5. Use generic drugs. Ask your doctor if there is a generic option for your brand-name medication. Proven just as safe and effective as brand-name medications, generics may be an affordable option for your treatment. 

6. Save time and money with a 90-day supply. When it comes to medications that are taken regularly, there are two easy ways to save time and money:

Retail-Plus pharmacies that sell 60- to 90-day supplies of maintenance drugs - Use the Retail-Plus Pharmacy Locator to find one near you.

–There’s no cost for shipping, and Caremark will deliver anywhere you’d like.
–You can split the cost of your prescription over three months.
–Caremark will contact the doctor for a new prescription and handle all the details.

Member Payment Estimator Tool

The Member Payment Estimator lets you find and compare actual costs for common procedures and treatments. Your search results are run through Aetna’s claim system, so you’ll see how much of the deductible you’ve met, plus any copays, coinsurance and plan limits that may apply.
